APR 23 09 Review: Lemar at Manchester Apollo
Crowds of screaming teenage girls piled into Manchester's Apollo to see Lemar, Fame Academy's most successful graduate, strut his stuff on stage, and they weren't disappointed.
The night was an all round talent show pop-fest with JLS taking to the stage as support band for Lemar.
The fans were just as ecstatic when the X-Factor four took to the stage and judging by the sea of teenage girls in JLS hoodies the fab foursome could probably have filled the venue themselves. Starting their set with a medley of Stand By Me and Beautiful Girl, those guys can really sing. They all looked like naturals on stage and happily avoided the cringe-inducing choreographed dance routines X-Factor spawned and instead just looked to be having so much fun on the stage every girl on the floor wanted to join them.
The cheers got even louder as the man of the night appeared on the blinged-up stage; sat casually on a chair; Lemar had everyone on their feet in seconds.
The singer/songwriter with soul was like a burst of energy on the stage as he delivered fans' favourites, Is There Any Justice, 50/50, and Dance With U. He moved seamlessly from up-tempo tracks to ballads, even treating fans to his classic Lullaby, explaining that a fan had requested it after the Truth About Love Tour in 2006 and he was keeping his promise to include it.
The highlight of the night was when Lemar belted out Sex on Fire, borrowed from Kings of Leon.
His latest album The Reason looks set to be hit if the response to track Weight of The World is anything to go by. Lemar even proved himself to be an all round nice guy, as well as a pop-sensation, dedicating the new album to all the fans who he said are 'The Reason' he is still performing.
